A paving company, facing six charges after a worker was killed on the job two years ago, is expected to enter pleas next month.
The 54-year-old victim was preparing to pave a driveway in New Harbour, Trinity Bay on May 31, 2019.
It was just after 9 a.m. when something went terribly wrong, and the man was killed at the scene.
Charges against Paradise Paving were only laid in April of this year under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
It’s alleged the company failed to provide safe equipment, tools, instruction and training for its workers, failed to ensure workers and supervisors were familiar with hazards, and failed to maintain equipment in a safe operating condition.
Paradise Paving is also accused of failing to make sure a worker wasn’t on site while “impaired by intoxicating substances.”
The matter is due back in provincial court on December 1.
