Tonight is bonfire night, and the Corner Brook Fire Department is reminding people of the precautions needed to keep the festivities as safe as possible.
Firstly, anyone wanting to have one is asked to fill out a form and submit it to the city. That way, fire department officials will be aware of any fires ahead of time and will be able to respond more efficiently should something happen.
As well, they’re asking people to follow the standard guidelines for having a fire.
Those rules include having the fire away from buildings and other combustibles, and making sure the fire is supervised at all times and fully extinguished before leaving.
As well, items like tires, plastics, and fuels should not be burned. Anyone found using such materials could be fined.
The form can be found on Corner Brook’s website. The filled out form can be emailed to tflynn@cornerbrook.com.
