Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for much of the island tomorrow night through to Friday.
Environment Canada says a low pressure system is forecast to rapidly intensify as it tracks south of Newfoundland on Thursday.
Rain or snow will develop over southern regions Wednesday night then move northward through central and eastern Newfoundland overnight and continue on Thursday.
Environment Canada says significant snowfall amounts are possible and most likely to be located over higher terrain in central and eastern Newfoundland. Coastal regions are likely to see all rain or a rain and snow mixture.
Very strong northerly winds are also expected Thursday night into Friday morning.
