“Every effort” is being made to locate two men reported overdue from a cabin trip in Notre Dame Bay.
The men, ages 20 and 30, departed Lawrence Harbour on Saturday and were reported overdue late Sunday afternoon.
An extensive search located a debris field about 15 km from where the men launched their 14-foot open vessel.
The area is peppered with islands. The acting superintendent for Maritime Search and Rescue with the Canadian Coast Guard, Neil Peet, says the situation is serious.
He says they are doing what they can to check cabins in case the men got to shore but the location of the debris field, along with the temperature of the water, poses serious concerns for the welfare and safety of the two men.
