The southwest coast got about another 50 mm of rain last night and overnight with roughly another 20 mm to come today before the temperature cools down and flurries and snow squalls move in.
The Trans-Canada Highway is still closed after last week’s washouts from record-breaking rainfall. Two sections reopened late yesterday and Port aux Basques Mayor Brian Button is hopeful that the rain will not cause additional troubles.
They will have a better handle on the situation after daybreak.
Button says while the heavy rain ended last week, the wet weather has continued and the ground remains saturated, causing some concern for municipal and transportation officials.
