Winter parking restrictions are now in place in the capital city region and Corner Brook.
From now until March 31st parking is prohibited 24 hours a day on streets that are designated as No Parking Snow Routes. Those streets are marked with signs.
The winter parking restriction for streets outside the designated downtown area will come into effect just after midnight on Wednesday, Jan 5th. After that time tickets will be issued to vehicles parked on streets between 12:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. That may be pushed forward if weather conditions dictate otherwise.
Meanwhile, 24 hour a day parking restrictions may be declared in certain areas if needed due to snow conditions.
On-street parking is allowed in the designated downtown area, unless scheduled for snow removal. Downtown snow removal takes place between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Vehicles must be removed from those areas if snow clearing is scheduled during that time.
The Downtown Business District Parking restrictions come into effect on January 5, unless declared otherwise by the City. While the ban is in place, vehicles cannot park on Water Street from Waldegrave to Prescott Street, and on Duckworth, from New Gower to Cochrane Street between 4 and 6 a.m., regardless of snow conditions.
Corner Brook Restrictions
The west coast city, which is usually snowier than St. John’s, has also enacted winter parking restrictions. The seasonal on-street parking ban came into effect on Wednesday, December 1st. Parking on city streets is not permitted between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. daily, including Saturdays and Sundays. Vehicles parked on the streets during the overnight parking ban may be ticketed and towed.
