Newfoundland Power says it’s doing the best they can trying to restore service to customers but it’s a challenge in this weather. Some roads are impassable. Most of the outages are in the metro region but there are scattered pockets across the island.
The snow tally in metro is about 35 cm with another 5-10 to come until it tapers to flurries tonight. Winds are gusting to 100kmh in many parts of the Avalon, but they will ease back to 50 tonight.
Travel is not recommended on many roads. A caller says several vehicles are stuck on the Team Gushue highway. Another stated zero visibility on Kenmount road with multiple vehicles stuck.
Beaumont Hamel Way (from Southlands Boulevard to 218 Danny Drive)
and Danny Drive (section next to the Trans-Canada Highway only) are closed. Cochrane Pond Road, west of the Back Line, closed because of drifting.
Road conditions in the Metro area are not great. Crews are working to clear the roads but whiteout conditions, due to strong winds, are occurring. If you don’t need to be out, we suggest staying inside until conditions improve. #nltraffic #nlwx pic.twitter.com/vo1ITImDYh
