The MHA for the Spaniard’s Bay area is calling on Canada Post to “get its act together” and return postal service to the town.
Spaniard’s Bay has been without mail service since last week following the closure of a local convenience store, forcing residents to travel to Harbour Grace for mail.
Some solutions to the situation were offered by the town, none of which have been availed of.
MHA Pam Parsons says the MP for the area, Ken Macdonald, will be meeting with the federal minister for Canada post, bringing with him correspondence from the town, in hopes of getting a resolution to the situation.
Parsons criticizes the lack of communication from Canada Post to residents, the impact on seniors, and notes that some residents are now receiving notifications that their mail is undeliverable.
She says what’s happening is not right.
She says it’s inconvenient all around, and all three levels of government are demanding action because residents deserve better.
MP Ken MacDonald says the federal minister has committed to conveying to Canada Post the importance of getting the matter resolved as urgently as possible.
