The province’s Child and Youth Advocate is retiring at the end of the month, but she says the work of her department is far from complete.
Jackie Lake-Kavanagh says she is disappointed that she will be leaving office before the beginning of the inquiry into Innu Children in Care.
However, she says her office has covered a lot of ground over the last five years.
She highlights some of the work they’ve done, including issues surrounding child protection, indigenous children, police use of force on children, mental health, financial issues, issues of consent and more.
Lake-Kavanagh concludes that there is a wide range of issues on the department’s radar that still need to be completed.
