At least one little girl is going to be the envy of children across the province who have ever asked for a pony for Christmas—and it’s all thanks to a number of dedicated lovers of the critically endangered Newfoundland pony.
The little girl’s mom says the family, who already have a couple of horses, were talking about getting a Newfoundland pony to start their own pony sanctuary, but says they’re very hard to come by.
She says her young daughter overheard the conversation and offered her assurances that Santa would come through.
“That’s okay Mom, Santa Claus is going to bring us a Newfoundland pony” she told her mother, “and he’s going to be white.” The mom tells VOCM News they had been searching for a pony for months and couldn’t secure one, “let alone a white one.”
It turns out that the little girl is going to get her wish thanks to the hard work of her parents and a west coast vet who just happened to have the white Newfoundland pony she asked for. The family was already in contact with the breeder, who offered them Sou’wes’ Nancy, a 22-year-old white Newfoundland Pony.
They made the arrangements, picked her up, and the pony is currently “hiding out in my husband’s father’s shed.”
The gift is a Christmas surprise, so we’re not sharing the family’s name or location just yet.
Just hiding out in a stall waiting to meet a little girl’s dream come true. It’s a dream for this 22-year-old Newfoundland Pony too. She’s going to a great home! What adventures they will have together. #christmas. Somewhere in #Newfoundland. Shhhh… it’s a secret. pic.twitter.com/0vrbs6RFY3
