More messy weather is on the way for the island of Newfoundland later this week, and just in time for Christmas.
Environment Canada says a system will move in Wednesday night and continue through Thursday.
Meteorologist, Justin Boudreau calls it a “classic Tibb’s Eve storm” starting in the overnight hours of Wednesday night and switching over to rain, particularly on the southern Avalon.
Winds could gust up to 100 km/h.
Snow is expected to change to rain over southern and eastern Newfoundland, with mainly snow elsewhere and the potential for higher accumulations in some areas.
Strong easterlies will shift to strong westerlies with coastal gusts expected in the range of 100 km/h. Poor visibility in blowing snow will occur where strong winds, snow and below-0 temperatures join forces.
Forecasters say it’s too soon to say how much will fall where, but the system is expected to clear out before Christmas Eve.
