RCMP in Harbour Grace had to administer Naloxone to a driver found unresponsive over the weekend.
Police received a report late Saturday night about a man who appeared to be passed out behind the wheel of a truck which was idling in a parking lot.
Officers noticed items in the truck that indicated a possible drug overdose. Naloxone was administered and the man started to come around. The 35-year-old was taken to hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
Blood samples were taken and police are continue to determine whether impaired driving charges are appropriate. An impaired driving charge can be laid where a person is in the care and control of a vehicle.
In the meantime, police are advising people who use drugs to be prepared for a possible opioid overdose by carrying a free Naloxone kit. They can be obtained through 811 or online.
