RCMP have arrested a 35-year-old wanted man who tried to flee from police after ramming a number of marked police vehicles in Chapel’s Cove over the weekend.
Matthew Scott, wanted on a number of outstanding charges was reported to be heading toward Chapel’s Cove early Sunday morning where police from Holyrood, Ferryland and Traffic Services East were set up to conduct a traffic stop.
Police say a spike belt was set up given previous flight from police and dangerous driving charges against Scott.
Scott drove over the spike belt around 1:20 Sunday morning on the main road in Chapel’s Cove, but continued to drive away and rammed several police vehicles before his van finally came to a halt. He got out and attempted to run from the scene, but police caught up with him and he was taken into custody a short distance away.
According to police Scott has more than 30 criminal and controlled drug and substances charges before the courts. He’s now facing an additional 12 charges including flight from police, dangerous driving, prohibited driving and multiple court breaches.
He’s being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
