In the coming days a growing number of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians will receive COVID exposure notifications.
According to Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, the extremely high transmissibility of the Omicron variant means that a greater number of people will be considered high-risk contacts of confirmed COVID cases.
“For example, if you attended an informal gathering in a home where there were no masks worn and no distancing, you would be a high-risk contact of a case there.”
High-risk contacts are required to get tested and self-isolate for a week. COVID exposure notifications usually involve bars and restaurants where masks are not worn.
“But make no mistake,” says Fitzgerald, “COVID can be anywhere.”
