The supply chain for COVID-19 vaccines is starting to stabilize but according to the Pharmacy Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, that’s only half the battle.
Pharmacies across the province have been inundated over the last week with people looking to book their COVID-19 booster shots.
PANL President Janice Audeau says there has been a huge demand for booster shots, She says a large shipment of about 20,000 doses was received by the province over the weekend, with another shipment en route.
She thinks supply will work itself out over the next couple of days. The tricky part, says Audeau, is administering the vaccines as there are only so many people they can vaccinate at a time. She thinks demand will be high for a while.
Public Health officials are urging patience for those hoping to get their booster shots.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says there will be enough supply for everyone who wants their booster shot. Boosters are considered to be the best way to offer heightened protection from the Omicron variant and pharmacies are reporting long lineups of people anxious to get their third shot.
Meanwhile, the federal government says they have enough booster vaccine for everyone who is eligible.
