The Mayor of St. John’s says accessibility remains a priority with St. John’s City Council.
Accessibility in St. John’s was a hot-button issue during this year’s municipal election, with many candidates including increased accessibility in their platform.
Mayor Danny Breen, who was acclaimed, says oftentimes, it’s the smaller projects that are important.
He sites installing curb cups near the accessible parking on Water Street as an example. He says those type of projects, along with new buildings having improved accessibility is important.
Breen says year after year, accessibility remains a priority.
He says St. John’s is an older city with older infrastructure, so putting money into upgrading those buildings is important to ensuring everyone can move around with ease.
