While the province’s COVID-19 vaccination program is chugging along, another annual immunization program is also taking place – the one for seasonal influenza.
According to Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, public health is seeing the standard uptake usually seen with flu clinics. She says that differs from what was seen last year, due to a vigorous program to try to combat a double pandemic of COVID and influenza.

As a new year commences, Dr. Fitzgerald is encouraging people to get their flu shot as it not only helps protect people, but also the province’s hospital capacity in the event of a surge in COVID-19 hospitalizations.
She reveals that flu shots can be given the same time as the COVID vaccine, so people can get both at the same time.
