The City of Mount Pearl is laying out their ideas for outdoor skating rinks this winter.
The City is interested in providing the outdoor recreation spaces for its residents throughout the winter.
Generally speaking, says Mayor Dave Aker, they’ve had success in building the rinks, but not maintaining them, due to the weather.
He says it was this struggle that inspired them to include a skating pad outside the new Civic Centre where they could use an ice re-surfacer to ensure skating on a more regular basis.
The city has three planned for this upcoming year at Murley Drive, the Ed Moyst Soccer Field and Mount Clara Avenue.
Currently the Upper Soccer Field rink is operational at the Team Gushue Sports Complex. A reminder that helmets are req’d. More rinks will be ready soon at the Murley Drive Tennis Court & Montclair St Playground. Want to help maintain a community rink? Email rstead@mountpearl.ca
