A generation ago, very few homecare workers were unionized, with employers offering few benefits and minimum wage.
Today, most are organized and enjoy better working conditions than those who came before them.
Of the approximate 5,000 homecare workers in the province, NAPE represents about 4600.
Union President Jerry Earle says the sector is still undervalued because this type of work allows people to remain in their own home.
About 95 per cent of that particular workforce is made up of women.
