Three young students are making a difference after noticing the school curriculum was lacking when it came to educating students on the historical struggles faced by those in the LGBTQ community.
14-year-old Eleanor Murray, her 12-year-old sister Emily and 12-year-old Tamsin Kennedy started a campaign of letter writing and door knocking to make the change.
Eleanor, who says she has always been interested in activism and politics, says it all started when she read a book about the LBGTQ+ rights movement and she sent an email.
She says it struck her that the struggles aren’t mentioned in the school curriculum, and most students don’t understand.
Eleanor’s sister then came on board, along with Tamsin and they started their campaign.
“Education is a key way to stop,” some of the teasing and slurs experienced in the school community, says Eleanor.
