Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are waking up to more loosened COVID-19 restrictions today.
In most cases, capacity limits have been increased to 50 per cent, provided social distancing and masking protocols can be met.
There are some exceptions—informal gatherings are still limited to 20 people and dance floors are not yet permitted.
Competitive team sports can resume within their regular schedules. However, only single games are allowed per day and tournaments are still prohibited.
As of today there is no longer a formal alert level system governing the province’s response to the virus.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald explains the decision.
She says with restrictions “rapidly” changing, it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between alert levels. From now on, government will simply be posting the current and planned restrictions on their website.
