It was a monster of a storm which hit a large chunk of the island on Monday. The most eastern area, the Avalon Peninsula, bore the brunt with 40 cm of the white stuff. It came in three hits: one from midnight to late morning, another in the afternoon and evening, then another late at night.
Roads are snow covered and slippery this morning and some ramps are nearly impassable. Side roads have considerable more buildup.
Some places are delaying their opening to give people time to dig out and the plows time to do their thing. Some businesses and activities in metro shut down activities early last night.
The east coast, central and south coast were also given a stern reminder by Mother Nature that we’re not out of winter just yet with amounts ranging from 15 to 25 cm.
Schools in the St. John’s/metro region will be delaying opening by three hours due to cleanup after the weather. All schools in the area will begin 3 hours later than normal. While some schools outside metro area also delaying their opening for several hours.
