Bookings on Marine Atlantic this year are way up, even from pre-COVID levels.
Marine Atlantic spokesperson Darrell Mercer says bookings are up significantly.
He says they’ve seen approximately 8,000 reservations made between January 1 and March 7 for summer travel. That compares to just over 600 for the same period last year and is more than double the 3,300 books made during the same period in 2019 before the COVID pandemic struck.
Mercer attributes that increase to pent-up demand and Come Home Year celebrations. In the meantime, Mercer says a promotion with the provincial government offering a discount is resulting in more reservations for the spring as well. He says the promotion is on to help boost traffic before the peak season when there is capacity on the run.
