The continuing war in Ukraine is raising concerns about global food security, but Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is ready to help with the supply of grain and potash to the global community.
Ukraine is a major producer of wheat and other grains, and the continued war is preventing farmers from sowing their fields.
Trudeau told reporters following meetings with NATO and G7 leaders in Brussels that Canada is playing a role in helping to address global food security.
He says they’re ensuring that Canada is planting as much as possible, in addition to the supply of potash, which is a key ingredient in most fertilizers.
Canada is also working with global partners to ensure that other countries are also maximizing their yield.
