The Town of Hermitage-Sandyville on the south coast is now without a doctor and the mayor isn’t sure what more they can do to recruit and retain one.
Steve Crewe says Central Health provides housing in Harbour Breton for physicians in the area and there are gyms, arenas and other amenities.
Crewe, who is in daily contact with the authorities, says it makes no sense to criticize politicians for the dilemma.
Anyone needing urgent or emergent medical care between now and Monday morning will have to go to Grand Falls-Windsor, a 2 1/2 hour drive.
He says MHA’s are doing everything they can, so it’s not fair to jump on social media and say that they are doing nothing.
Mayor Crewe says they too have family members impacted by the doctor shortage.
