The official opening of a new EV education centre in St. John’s on Friday got a boost from those who matter most in the drive to electric.
Both the federal and provincial governments were well-represented, as well as brass from Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro and Newfoundland Power.
Hydro CEO Jennifer Williams says her family is all-in on electric vehicles, adding it’s not just for show due to her position.
She says she and her husband were sold from the minute their test drive vehicle hit the on-ramp to the highway, noting it is also important, in her role, to be leading by example and driving electric.
The new EV resource and learning centre is located at Drive Electric NL’s offices on Pippy Place in St. John’s.
To date, the centre has received about $300,000 from the federal government and $80,000 from the province.
Ottawa has set 2035 as the target to ensure all new passenger vehicles emit zero emissions.
