Work on merging the province’s four regional health authorities into one has begun, with job losses expected to be managed mostly through attrition.
Current President and CEO of Eastern Health, David Diamond has been named as the transitional CEO to lead the planning team.
The merger of the four health authorities was announced in the provincial budget earlier this month and the Health Accord detailed its case toward that end in its report.
The Health Accord will release “The Blueprint” for implementation of its 57 calls to action by mid-May.
The department of Health and Community Services says it has begun the process of integrating the existing health authorities into one and its structure will be “reflective of all regions of the province.”
Job losses will be managed through “attrition and other efficiencies” and affected employees will be offered meaningful, comparable alternative employment within the new regional health authority.
