The poor condition of a well-used concrete stairway in downtown St. John’s made its way to the floor of city council Tuesday.
The steps below the Livingstone Street-Carter’s Hill intersection have been falling apart, with railings also hanging by a thread.
Barricades placed around the area were recently strewn on the ground nearby.
Safety concerns prompted area residents to contact VOCM News, as well as City Hall. And yesterday, Councillor Ophelia Ravencroft addressed the issue.
As a regular walker, Ravencroft says any pedestrian walkway is important to her, noting the city is aware of the significance of that particular route to and from downtown and is working on a solution.
Ravencroft says designs for the repairs are in progress and will go to tender soon, with a fix completed this summer.
