Two men, one of them in his 80s, are facing serious charges following a disturbance in Northern Bay on Thursday night.
Harbour Grace RCMP responded to a home in the community around 8:30.
Police say the officers spoke with the occupants to calm the situation down. It turns out there was an outstanding warrant out for 80-year-old Sylvester Woodfine Sr.
When police informed him that he was under arrest, he became upset and allegedly assaulted the officer with a number of items in the home.
Woodfine’s son, 47-year-old Sylvester Woodfine Jr., also became upset and tried to intervene by threatening and assaulting another officer.
Both men were removed from the home and taken into custody without further incident.
The older Woodfine is facing charges of assaulting a police officer with a weapon and resisting arrest, and was released to appear in court at a later date.
The younger man was also charged with assaulting a police officer, obstruction and uttering threats. He was remanded in custody to appear in court on Monday.
