The co-chair of an organization that represents injured workers at the Marystown Shipyard is calling for an investigation into Workers’ Compensation and those involved in case diagnosis and decision-making.
Glenn Brown was injured while working at the yard years ago and despite repeated attempts has been unable to get the diagnosis to which he believes he is entitled. Without it, his compensation benefits are less than what he feels they should be.
The Marystown Shipyard Families Alliance, which represents about a hundred former workers and their families, is calling for an RCMP investigation into Workplace NL.
Brown, co-chair of the association, says he has a 20-year-old catastrophic injury sustained at the facility—a cervical spine fracture at the base of his skull—which was not previously identified by any medical professional.
Workplace NL and others associated with the process have dismissed his claim. As well, they have not been able to entice any lawyer to take the case.
Brown says they have also been dismissed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, the Citizens Rep, the Premier, Minister of Health, Human Rights and pretty well every organization which comes under the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador on this issue.
