The Opposition wants to see the provincial government impose a levy—not on the people, but on themselves.
The infamous budget of 2016 introduced a payroll levy and a new tax on fuel to tackle the deficit which, at that time, was projected to hit $2 billion without special measures.
During debate on the budget in the House of Assembly Wednesday morning, PC Finance Critic Tony Wakeham said, given the skyrocketing cost of living, it’s time for government to take steps to help everybody, not just certain sectors.
He says there should be a rebate to help with the cost of living and the price of gas. He said if government can bring in a levy on the people, they can bring in a reverse levy.
