Work has resumed at the Vale mine site in Voisey’s Bay after a leak in the glycol system early this morning. The fluid is used to cool the power plant and heat the facility.
Vale says the leak has been contained and the response team is cleaning it up. There was no risk to employees and Vale’s initial assessment shows it was contained to surface areas with no environmental impact.
Shifts were initially suspended but have safely resumed according to the company.
Vale says regulatory agencies are being contacted.
