The government will seek “financial remedies” to compensate for problems with its MyGovNL website.
Digital Government Minister Sarah Stoodley says the site’s downtime this week is “completely unacceptable.”
She says the company responsible, Vivvo Applications, was contracted several months ago to upgrade the security of logging in. But Stoodley says Monday’s failure has caused government to second guess its choice of vendor.
The Minister says she believes it was a situation where the company made a mistake when building the solution for the site, adding the focus now is getting the system back up, which will be followed by a longer-term assessment.
The province pays a monthly base fee of $15,000, which goes up depending on the number of users on the site.
As of Thursday night, it was still down but Stoodley says IT experts are working to restore service as soon as possible.
She says no information has been compromised and it is not related in any way to the recent cyberattack.
