The Quality Living Alliance for Seniors in this province believes personal care homes can provide solutions to the high cost of healthcare that the province is experiencing.
Beverly Russell, President of the Alliance, says the industry is “totally dissatisfied” with the provincial government, stemming from what she calls the “blatant disrespect” shown to seniors in the province.
Russell believes they are a solution, and is calling on government to be the partner that seniors and the industry need.
Executive Director Susan Sullivan believes the goal should be “not to bring years to the lives of seniors, but to bring life to the years of the seniors,” and she believes the owners of such homes do this very well.
She says they need help from government to ensure that they can continue to provide quality care. Specifically, they need an increase in the subsidy, changes to how the placement process is conducted, and simply for government to “step up.”
According to Sullivan, the problem is now; care homes are on the verge of closing and seniors can’t wait for more reports and consultations.
