Construction has started on the Burin Peninsula RCMP Detachment.
Commanding Officer Jennifer Ebert was joined by region officials to break the ground on the site of the new detachment in Marystown.
The cost of the new building is shared 70 per cent with the provincial government, and 30 per cent by the federal government. It will be built directly behind the old detachment which was constructed 38 years ago and no longer meets RCMP requirements.
The new facility will feature a state-of-the-art thermal design, energy-efficient lighting, and a fully functional cell pavilion with a breath-testing and fingerprinting area.
Construction is set to wrap up in November of 2023.
