The provincial government has released its list of road construction projects for the upcoming construction season.
In total, 61 tenders for roads projects have been issued, while 45 highway projects have also been approved.
Some highlights include finishing paving along the Trans-Labrador Highway, paving sections of the Trans-Canada, paving along Salmonier Line, the Northern Peninsula Highway, and the Baie Verte Highway as well as the replacement of 18 bridges.
Last year saw several road washouts across the province, some of the most severe being on the west coast last November following a heavy rainstorm.
Minister Elvis Loveless believes that such events have changed the way in which government looks at undertaking road projects. Loveless says climate change is real, and that has become more evident over the last year.
For example, he says when culverts are replaced, larger ones are being put in. He says climate change has changed their planning, but he believes it is for the greater good in response to the situation.
