With summer upon us, that usually means more vehicles on the road and a greater number of accidents.
About 40 per cent of all crashes occur at intersections where roads and vehicles converge.
Jim Brazil, a Traffic Safety Instructor with Safety NL, says distracted driving comes in many forms—not just cell phone usage. One of the big problems at intersections is with drivers who don’t come to a complete stop despite signage that directs otherwise.
The intent of that stop sign is to get the person to look and pay attention, says Brazil.
“One of the examples we use is crosswalks where a driver who is not paying attention tends to mishandle the situation. ”
