The City of St. John’s is working hard to avoid what the City of Mount Pearl is going through.
St. John’s is at various stages of negotiations with a half dozen union locals whose contracts have expired.
Asked how those talks are going, St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen declined to negotiate in public, saying it wouldn’t be appropriate.
He says they’re working with the unions to reach agreements through ongoing discussions.
Mount Pearl is in the midst of a municipal workers’ strike centering on equal benefits for new hires.
It’s led to the shutdown of the Summit and Glacier facilities, leading to a growing list of cancelled programs.
