A Ukrainian doctor with eight years of experience in general practice wants to work in Newfoundland and Labrador, but says it will take too long to get accreditation in this province.
Dr. Marina Sagorska says the process can take between two and five years.
She says the process is far too long given the number of people who are without a family doctor, and her willingness to help. She says the provincial government must have a clear plan to help streamline the process.
Right now, Dr. Sagorska says she must return to study to meet the criteria for a diploma in this province, but she believes her experience speaks for itself. She indicates her education is on par with that in this province.
Her Ukrainian diploma is good in Canada, so she’s not sure why the process here is so long.
