Newfoundland and Labrador has until recently been bucking the trend when it comes to business investment in Atlantic Canada.
The Fraser Institute’s latest report shows that while business investment in the Atlantic Canadian region is down, Newfoundland and Labrador is doing well, at least in recent years.
That’s according to the report’s author, Alex Whelan, who says the oil and gas sector and Muskrat Falls are part of the reasons why.
He says according to the latest data, which dates from 1990-2018, Newfoundland and Labrador attracted investment that was 23 per cent higher than the national average, and the gap between NL and the other Atlantic provinces is “even higher than that.”
