The Veterans Memorial Highway has reopened as fire crews battled a brush fire in Carbonear last evening.
Around 5 p.m., emergency crews were called to Carbonear where a blaze had broken out near the Dairy Queen and Earle’s Riding Horses at the top of the hill.
The highway was closed for a number of hours a water bomber had to be called in to extinguish the flames.
Meanwhile, the Bay d’Espoir Highway remains closed due to a large amount of smoke blowing in the wind. Drivers are asked to avoid or leave the area.
