There were no injuries, but the extent of damage is still being assessed from recent lightning strikes that rocked Twillingate.

The gangway at Iceberg Quest Ocean Tours in Twillingate was struck by lightning on Friday, one of a number of lighting strikes in Twillingate at the time. In another incident, a boat at the wharf was struck resulting in significant damage.

Three people were killed by a lightning strike outside the White House in Washington DC on the weekend.

Barry Rogers of Iceberg Quest says he’s in the process of installing ground wires on the wharf following an increase in thunderstorm activity in the area. The same area suffered a similar lightning strike several years ago, resulting in far greater damage. He’s relieved no one was hurt.

He says it’s time to take lightning seriously, and while electrical boxes can be replaced, you can’t replace a life lost.
