A facility used for Deer Lake’s marquee tourist event has been destroyed by fire.

The Strawberry Festival stage went up in flames last night, Mayor Mike Goosney says the fire department extinguished the blaze quickly but the stage is a total loss. The good thing he says is that there were no injuries.

It won’t have any effect on the festival this year as the event has come and gone. As for next year, Mayor Goosney says “we’ll just rebuild it bigger and better.”
