RNC have made an arrest and laid charges in connection with a disturbing assault in the downtown last month.

A man suffered serious injuries after he was kicked in the face by a man as he was doing pushups on the sidewalk in the early morning hours of October 10th.

The incident was caught on video – showing a man who appeared to be passing the scene, wheeling off and viciously kicking the victim in the head before running away.

The RNC say the victim had already left to seek treatment at hospital when they arrived, and the suspect was identified as 20-year-old Shane Mackey.

RNC say investigators later determined that Mackey had left the province in an attempt to escape arrest.

Police arrested Mackey in St. John’s on Saturday and charged him with aggravated assault. He was held to appear in court.
