The owners of a house on Gower Street in downtown St. John’s say they haven’t stopped laughing after a decal left behind from a Hudson and Rex shoot prompted a real warning letter from the city of St. John’s.
Ann Pickard-Vandeering and her husband Julian’s house was used during filming as the site of a hair salon, complete with the decal “Curl up and Dye” in the window.
The signage was so real that after a city inspector was called to the area, the couple received a letter from the city noting that they were in violation of numerous city bylaws for apparently operating an unlicensed business.
Ann Pickard-Vandeering found humour in the situation and says she hasn’t stopped laughing since receiving the letter.
The couple contacted the city and the file has since been closed, but they say it has attracted a lot of attention.
They say people have been coming by and taking selfies with the sign. Julian says they recently had their window open and heard people chatting about it outside, joking that it sounded like people were giving guided tours of the neighbourhood.
