The provincial government has submitted a formal letter requesting disaster relief from Ottawa.
Public Safety Minister John Hogan says he has signed a letter to Federal Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair requesting assistance.
Hogan says details will be ironed out in the coming days.
He says they have accepted Ottawa’s offer for assistance, however, it is still too early to tell what specific supports are going to be needed. He says as the damage is assessed, they’ll have a clearer idea of what they will ask for.
Meanwhile, St. John’s South-Mount Pearl MP Seamus O’Regan says they have received this province’s request and an Incident Response Group of himself, Prime Minister Trudeau, Minister Blair, and Minister of National Defence Anita Anand have met to discuss how to aid the province.
Received the @GovNL formal Request for Assistance. We’ve been working together all along.
Just finished an Incident Response Group meeting with the Prime Minister, @AnitaAnandMP @BillBlair. @gudie is on the ground.
We will support the people there in every way we can.
