The Town of Port aux Basques will be allowing some residents of Water Street East a short window of opportunity to check on their properties and get items they need.
Mayor Brian Button says some homes on Water Street East are intact and accessible, while other property owners simply won’t be able to access their homes.
He says they’ll be allowing residents to enter the area for escorted access to their properties to get essentials and items between 4:30 and 6:00 p.m. today.
The Volunteer Fire Brigade will be set up at barricades on both ends of the street to take people in. Some will be able to go into their properties while others will not because their homes have either been deemed unsafe or “because of the obvious.”
Our crews are in Port aux Basques, working to safely repair the damage caused by the storm surge from Hurricane Fiona, including replacing several poles. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this devastating storm. We're here if you need us. Stay safe. pic.twitter.com/4zzEwitKev
