Repairs are scheduled to begin today on the Grand Bay West bridge as the contract has been let to restore a key connection with nearby Port aux Basques.
Meanwhile, school bells will be ringing this morning for the first time since Fiona struck. Mayor Brian Button, who has been in regular discussion with the school board, says the school bus map has been altered to reflect the current situation as some areas are inaccessible and some people no longer live where they used to.
Buses from Grand Bay will have to go the long way around via the TCH because of the closure of the bridge.
Because school has reopened, the Canadian Red Cross has moved its emergency shelter for people displaced by the hurricane to St. James Anglican Church. Anyone in need of financial, housing and other immediate support has to register with them by calling the toll-free number at 1-800-863-6582 or visiting the Canadian Red Cross website.
