The capital city says allegations made by St. John’s lawyer Steve Marshall that the city has a “vendetta” against Danny Williams are “unfounded” and “untrue.”
Marshall claims that the timing of a summons issued to Lex Holdings for failing to address graffiti on property recently expropriated by the province is suspicious because Williams is challenging the city in court on the requirement for another roundabout in Galway.
The city says inspection staff were tasked to address graffiti in the Water Street area last year based on complaints received.
The city says as a result, notices under the Commercial Maintenance Bylaw were issued to identified properties and gave property owners an opportunity to have the graffiti removed.
All but 11 property owners completed the work during the timelines set out and the remaining 11 properties were issued tickets for non-compliance.
A follow-up inspection in February showed that only two of the 11 outstanding property were still not in compliance. The owner was convicted by default on January 12th.
First appearance is scheduled for May 16th.
