The Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador is remembering one of the province’s most prominent links to the monarchy.
John Perlin passed away on Sunday at the age of 88.
He served as the Canadian Secretary to Queen Elizabeth II and Private Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor in 1987 and was the designated host to the Queen when she visited Newfoundland and Labrador.
Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote says Perlin had “unparalleled admiration and respect for the Monarchy” and was a constant presence at Government House.
Perlin also chaired the Terra Nova Committee, where he provided “principled counsel” to ensure that Government House was preserved in a sustainable way.
Foote says his impact was far-reaching in the province and beyond.
